2012 987 Spyder or 996 GT3?
So I figured I ask here. I have a 987 Spyder. 2012. Love it. I have a .2GT3RS.
Was thinking selling the Spyder and getting a 996GT3.
Thoughs?

Check the spyder threads and the GT3 threads recently. Folks from both camps have compared back and forth pretty nicely.
bur I’m with the OPs if you have a 997 GT3 why get rid of the spyder and get a 996? Seems the spyder would serve a different purpose on the road and be with keeping imo

996 GT3 is a very different animal from both of your current cars. It’s a raw, angry, rough bitch and likes to be treated as such. If you just plan on using it only to peddle around on public roads, I wouldn’t recommend as I am doubtful you would enjoy it compared to what you already have. If you want to track and looking for a different experience from your 991.2 RS, I say go for it and don’t look back (you won’t). Not an easy car to extract the maximum from but such amazing fun trying.

If you had a 997.2 GT3 I'd say keep the Spyder, but having a Mezger engined car in the garage is a real nice feeling.. With a 991.2 GT3RS I'd say the 996 will be a nice water-cooled journey back to the early more raw experience as well. 2 Totally different drives, if you don't mind not having the wind in your hair with the Spyder swap for the GT3 for sure.

A 991rs is more comfortable than a 996gt3. So in your case I would only get a 996gt3 as a very analog track toy. A bonus is that its a lot cheaper to track than a 991rs when it comes to tires and brakes.
good luck and let us know how it goes.

It depends on whether you intend to track the RS. If you are not going to track the RS more than 10 or 12 times a year, but use it mainly for highway use, there would be no need to get the 996 GT3 unless it would be your track car.
The GT3 as a track car rewards the driver differently than the RS you have. Driven well, it can keep up with many higher horsepower cars. It can not keep up with well driven McClaren's, ACR's, ZL-1's, or some Z06.
The 996 GT3 has no electronic nannies other than ABS. If you found a good one, it has a Mezger engine. The Mezger is a proven competition engine.
As an every day road car, the GT3 requires commitment. The 996 GT3 is very low in the front. It is easy to scrape, peel back, remove the splitter from some driveways, restaurant entrances, gas stations, speed bumps, etc.
The splitter is not the hard to put back on with new push pins (of which I always carry 12), but it is a distraction none the less.

This is a tough call IMO. The Gen-1 Spyder is a very very capable, fun, non-track, oriented car. It is PERFECT for canyon carving up the local hills, some AutoX every now and again, and everyday top-down runs. The fact that I'm on my second one is testament to it's appeal and the fact that I instantly regretted selling the first one. But like many, I too am sniffing around the GT cars and wondering about a switch. There's a 25K mile Speed Yellow 966 GT3 that's come up in my area for sale. It looks stunning, love the colour etc... BUT, is it worth the switch? I'll most likely go and drive it and see IF it scratches the itch. I've driven both the 997.2 GTS and the GTS RS and while absolutely loved them, was left still not 100% sure about a switch. Anybody go this route and be so enamored by the GT3 that you forgot about the Spyder? Tough call I know. Any regrets?
P.s. The Spyder also scrapes etc... so not too worried about that. It has no A/C etc... yet I wouldn't describe it as raw, just very basic.

Easy peasy. The correct answer is to not sell anything, but to add the GT3. You can figure out which one to sell later
