On to lighter things
"why did the chicken cross the road?"
I think he was depressed and wanted to end it all - either that or he was in the chicken "X Games" and lost....

I think the chicken crossed the road because he was already skilled in E & E actions (Eggsagerate & Eggscape), and had quickly done the math in his brain (without pecking a calculator), and knew that he could make it across before the GT-3 turned him into a feather fog. The 1.6 formula is very helpful for this.

The '1.6 Formula' does give a street racer a indication of how much distance to allot if something goes wrong. It is very useful in E & E driving.

Given all the variable's, there is no way that the car can be stopped in 315 feet. With a professional driver on a dry track, it will at least be 1500 feet, if not more. Figured someone would be interested in working it out using a professional driver's deceleration figure of (32 fps) or better.

I have to thank Bently for all this.. His fantasy world ramblings brought my "why did the Chicken cross the road" line into the limelight.
This does bring back some memories though of the time I was on Mars acting as a super spy, freeing the mutant inhabitants, and finally terraforming the planet so life could flourish there. Ahh.. those were the days..

Even better than the GT3 speeds is this from the *Sun*:
http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2004031766,00.html):
Driver Peter O'Flynn was stunned to receive a speeding notice claiming a
roadside camera had zapped him -- at an astonishing 406MPH. The sales
manager, who was driving a Peugeot 406 at the time, said: "I rarely speed
and it's safe to say I'll contest this." Officials admitted it was a
clerical bungle, but insisted he would still be prosecuted. (The Peugeot
406 Sport has a top speed of 129mph.)

As you comedians go about your banter, and think you are too remote from a chase scenario in your daily lives, read the following. Perhaps it will educate you a little [if that is possible]:

Porsches can often get over 1.0 g of braking with ABS and no significant aerodynamic lift. I measured a 928 over 15 years ago at 1.06 g for the entire stop from 80 MPH. If one assumes that ABS on Porsches hasn't lost capability over the years, that the GT2/3 aerodynamics have no significant lift at 197 (possibly erroneous), and tires are at least as good today as in 1987, then I propose that 1.0 g is a charitable (to Bentley) deceleration value.
If one uses this web calculator to investigate Bentley's physics homework, one finds that about 1300 feet is required to stop from an initial velocity of 197 MPH. (Calculator hint: The units are listed just to the right of the entry box. The "=" sign marks are a little bit confusing)
OK, Bentley, let's see what sort of harrumph you can work up to over this intriguing fact.

What does that have to do with the current thread?
