Default 2nd gear detent - prevents popping out of 2nd gear

is this a potential issue with our cars?
I've not seen any discussion and my car does not exhibit any issues with popping out of 2nd gear.

Pretty certain it’s only an issue on turbo cars for whatever reason

ive heard from my shop to not use that thing, it's garbage and will lead to more expensive repairs down the line.. .. take it for what it's worth... but like was said above, Ive never heard of that happening on GT3s. It's a tolerance/pre-load issue in the turbo gearbox, although I could be remembering wrong.

you got it pretty much right. There are a dozen different shims varyingin thickness by .05mm to account for stack height. On the turbos they used the same shim every time and due to minor tolerance differences in the gears it led to improper location on a percentage of the gearboxes.

Any G96 variant gearbox with a 2nd year popout issue today is because the synchros and shifting parts are worn and need tone serviced.

2nd 911, 2nd time using the Gbox 2nd gear detent.

Not due to solve already there symptoms, but a precautionary measure.

I can't comment on if you already have the problem but at least can say that its been a peace of mind thing for me.

Neither one of my cars had the 2nd gear pop out before and after installing the Gbox detent I've tracked both of them hard without any warning signs. Seems alright to me.

why not just add the 8mm ball bearing that porsche added? seems to have fixed any issues. if the shim stack isnt proper theres going to be issues doubt theres any external fix for that

I think this will also lead to issues further down the line similar to what happens with the detent. Hopefully GTgears will comment again on this.

But the GT3 transmissions don't have this pop-out issue in the first place... the trans was put together properly from the factory.
