Default My experience with Wheel Dynamics

So just wanted to share. I contacted them through their website about a specific wheel they had advertised for $1299 for the set of 4 on their website. Eli replied the next day and assured me they would fit perfect on my NB 996 and they were only $1899. I replied with a screen shot of their website showing $1299. He replied and stated he got them mixed up with another set. No big deal, he assured me $1299 was correct. So I asked what the package (wheels/tires/bolts/shipped) would be. I didn't hear back so I private messaged wheel dynamics on rennlist. I heard back a few days later with details and tires would be $750. No other info on the tires than that. So I asked for the tire information (brand/size) and informed them I did not want any stretch to the tires. So a week later, still no tire info although I have asked for it repeatedly. I even contacted Eva and she got back to me right away, but still no tire info.

Customer Service means the world to me. So based on this experience I will pay more somewhere else and never use Wheel Dynamics for anything in the future.

Bummer. I have nothing but good things to say about my experiences with them. Always prompt with good information.

$750 is dirt cheap for tires.

I realize other people have had good experiences which is what I was expecting, and is probably why I am so let down by the experience.

I know $750 is cheap for tires, which is why I asked for the specifics. I don't want some cheap piece of crap tire on my car. 😜

^That^ would depend on what type, brand and size of tire you're talking about...

I like buying custom wheels myself. I always spec my own tires on tirerack and have them went to my local installer. Get exactly what you want.

+one for good service. Sad to hear the ball may have been dropped, but who knows why he hasn't gotten back to you in a timely manner but hey, life happens to all of us.

Good luck anywhere you go if you do not decide to give him another chance.

+1 on this ... I also like to spec my own tires.

Nothing against Wheel Dynamics or Tire Rack, but I'm not crazy about the idea of buying a pre-mounted wheel/tire combo. I prefer to go to a local specialist who has quality balancing equipment (e.g. Road Force) and knows how to use it. If you ask around a little, it's usually pretty easy to find out where people with high performance cars get their tire and wheel work done in your area.

It might cost a little more to get tires mounted and balanced by a good local shop, but the difference is a fraction of the total cost. And if anything isn't just right, I want to be able to go back and get it made right.

I say, buy the wheels you like, research the tires for your driving style, weather, and other criteria you may be looking for, shop that tire on the internet for price (got to be careful about tire production date on cheaper web prices) then go to your chosen tire shop and have them get a price. You may find that they will negotiate the price when you tell them what you can get them for. That's what I did and got the tires from the shop at the same price as The Tire Rack (less shipping) and was able to verify production date before they installed.

I had a very good experience with Wheel Dynamics and would use them again. Got a good price on the refurbished wheels I bought and a decent price on the crappy chromes that came on the car. I had them take the new tires I just bought off the chromes and mount and balance them on the new wheels. Everything worked out fine. Had a marble cleaner do a great job in my bathroom and my entry hall, and then screw up my kitchen counter top. Stuff happens.

My experience with Wheel Dynamics was similar to yours Hawk, though I didn't put as much effort into it as you have. I just marked them off my list of potential vendors.

Tire Rack has been doing road force balancing for at least 20 years. Never had an issue with buying wheel/tire combos there.

I'm surprised they have not chimed in yet.

Was thinking the same thing. Usually they are pretty responsive to threads...

My experience with Wheel Dynamics was very good. Sorry you had a bad experience. I paid less than $750 for all four tires delivered to my door from Tire Rack, SUMITOMO
HTR Z III - great tires as far as I'm concerned.
