Default New Tires?

I had noticed some side wall cracking on the outside of my 911's tires previously, but while under the car these past two weekends, this cracking looks more pronounced on the inside and I guess needs to be dealt with SOON!
These are Michelin Pilot Sport A/S with only 20K miles on them, but over 4 1/2 years. Any recommendation for new tires/ My preference lies towards all season tires, although I keep saying one of these years I'll make it to a DE. Has any one tried the new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+?

That is a failed tire. The silver you are seeing is steel cord. Game over. I wouldn't drive that.

From my experience, most Michelin tires, while giving amazing levels of grip, dry rot and start cracking. See that a few times. Most last about 3-4 years. Max 5 years from date of Manufacturer (DOT)

Yea, you should definitely change that tire, it looks really bad... I also have Michelin PS2 and just changed them due to age. The rears are due but the front tires still have plenty of threads but they become noisy due to age. Good-luck, cheers,

OP, I recently purchased Sumitomo HTR Z III from tire rack. Under $600 delivered for all 4 tires. Very happy so far.

I'd have to check, but they were installed in Nov 2012. Turns out the Pilot Sport A/S 3+ don't have the rear tire fitment (285/30 18), so have to consider something else or - heaven's no - a slightly smaller width (265/35?). Or just go with summer only tires.

Fortunately for everyone, that car has sat the last 6 months thru the winter, then the failed AOS. Had planned to drive it a few miles to the store tonight to get it up to operating temperature after the AOS install, but I guess I should not? Not likely to be too dangerous below 40 mph, but wouldn't want to get stranded either. Oh well, another week not driving the car.

That tire looks terrible!! Just out of curiosity, can you check the production date? You can see it on the tire, like picture below. This is a picture of my new tire, production date 07-17 (week 7 of 2017).

Same here, new Sumi's set from Tire-Rack and don't forget their special, extra $50 mail-in rebate until end of the month, I think, that's really great. Cheers,

Default Sumitomo

+ another 1 on the Sumitomo's. Took them out on Sonoma Raceway a couple of weeks ago, sticky and very predicable. Will be buying more.
