Default CarFax Inaccuracies?

First post, time to dive in!

My 996 has a solid service history but I'm trying to recover some old receipts from Indie shops prior to my ownership. A particular local shop pops up a few times as having done basic service, oil/fluids/filters, etc.

I visited the shop today to have them continue the trend and asked if they could provide receipts from the previous services, removing names if needed.

The desk guy's response was "a car with this VIN has never been here before."

Odd, since the CarFax calls out the shop by name along with a list of services performed each time they are in.

Has anyone else come across this or is this particular desk person just not being helpful?

Brandon, It's code for "Don't bother us punk"

Prolly don't keep records that far back and didn't want to fool with it.

That's what I'm thinking, and kind of enough to keep me from coming back. Also makes me regret the hour drive for a $200 oil/filter change when I could have done it at a good Euro shop down the street.

Great news, I was able to push the desk person very lightly and within about 15 seconds produced years of records.

Awesome! Guess it proves you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

and, it helps to find the right person too, huh?

Enjoy the car!

It was the same service guy, but he had just gotten off the phone with a customer who was asking if they had warranty coverage on a fuel pump on an early 997 with 110k miles, so maybe my request seemed tame by comparison.

I was very lucky with my car, using the carfax and knowing where the previous owner (Gator) took the car, I was able to get almost all of the records for the car from almost the beginning of its life. I made sure not to let my wife know what the total of all of the records added up to.

I did need to provide proof of ownership. Apparently they have HIPPA for cars now.
