Default Cardan Shaft Removal

I would like to try my C4S in 2wd mode for a bit. I have read that removal of the cardan shaft is the simplest way to do this. But I have a couple of questions.

1. If I remove it, could I drive it for a season like this?
2. Do I leave the guibo on the output flange from the engine or take it off?

I don't want to go that far right now. I have seen at least one thread where removing the cardan shaft was great, one where PSM freaked out, and many were people just poo pooed the whole idea.
