Default Manual key operation

My '02 C2, came with two keys, but one was missing the circuit board. After a couple of years the good one finally gave up the ghost (drained batteries within 24 hours). So I just use the key to lock and unlock. No big deal. Don't feel like shelling out for a new one.

However, what IS a pain is when I have a passenger. Only the driver's door unlocks, not the passenger. I have to reach across and pull the lever twice to unlock. Seems like I read something here once that you can program it to open both locks with the key, but I didn't have the problem at the time. Searching has not revealed anything.

Any advice appreciated.

That's odd. My remote no longer works but my key locks and unlocks both doors. You might have an issue with the door latch mechanism.

If you're trying to be a tool, mission accomplished.

My key has started draining batteries fast, like a week. Anyone know what causes this?

OP. I agree with others. Both doors should lock/unlock with the key and set/disarm the alarm.

Do you keep your car locked or unlocked? Might be a silly question but keeping it unlocked (in a garage obviously) will drain the battery.

Key battery dies, not car battery.

Why would keeping the car unlocked drain the battery? I keep mine unlocked in the garage and never had the battery drain although I do keep it on a tender.

Seems counter-intuitive but it's true.

Does the lock/unlock button on the dash work with the passenger door? If it does, the problem is likely at the driver's door latch. If not, there is a break somewhere.

Mine does the exact same thing. One of these days I will get a new key made, but 99% of the time my car sits in my garage at home or at the office where it stays unlocked. But it is annoying.

Look closely at the key shell is the raised area above the internal microswitch deformed? If so it may be holding the switch depressed for awhile after you press it. That would drain it.
I had one do that and it also damaged the switch. There is a thread, actually more than one, that details replacing the switch on Rennlist forums. There are also kits available on eBay.
Found one

Yes, the dash switch works, but ONLY if I shut my door, which obviously means I have to get in the car. Not the most convenient thing. Seems like with all the tricks you can do with the key for raising and lowering the windows, alarm settings, etc., this should be a no brainer.
