I think that the leds only work (and look) fine if you have projectors headlights. For instance, the MKII have all of them projectors, even when they dont mount xenon.

On those, the LED bulbs that are now available (no the cheapest chinese ones, but there are a lot of good quality ones available) look and perform well. I have them installed in a 2017 Ford Edge and I am very happy.
