Hmm. Yeah, I suppose that makes sense, but that sounds like an extreme edge case to spend time on R&D for (and then software coding, testing, and so on).

It must be required in the vehicle code for some locales; otherwise, it wouldn't exist. Well, I can't guarantee that with "I'd die for this" certainty, but I'm pretty sure Porsche doesn't throw extra wiring and switching into the car because they want it to be heavier and cost more.
