Being a collector car dealer, I've found that the Hagerty values are useful as a starting place if you've no other data, or a car from an era or make you're not familiar with. Beyond that, I find their data "a little optimistic" in a lot of cases. Mannheim Dealer Auctions lists their national sales reports for each sale, or you can search by model nationwide for dealer auction results- if you're a registered dealer. They post each lot item pre-sale with an "MMR" estimate, which is an average sale price of a particular year/model car with similar mileage, etc.
Trouble is, almost all of the older Porsches I see at dealer auctions are usually beat, and probably not something an enthusiast would own. There are exceptions of course, but the 996s are valued pretty low currently due to this.
It may be a good venue to sneak up on something under the "that's entirely too cheap for a 911" vein, or if somebody's looking for a project or track car candidate. The 20 yr old Porsches I've seen at dealer auctions are not something you'd want take directly home and keep under a car cover. Rather, I see super high miles with obvious lack of maintenance, questionably modded with body kits from who knows where, bumper covers loose and mismatched, obvious poor body panel repair, torn and tatty interiors, salvage/rebuilt titles, etc. Maybe the guy who's loading a warehouse with these examples as future collectibles sees something I don't -if that guy even exists!

There is still far too much inventory for the 996 to appreciate, erm, appreciably.
