Secondary air check valve.

Secondary air check valve.
Has anyone replaced this? I think the check valve is what is causing some of my problems. The Bentley manual is telling me that I need to pull the left side intake manifold. Can I get to it by pulling out the alternator?

I highly doubt you can replace those valves with only the alternator removed unless you like building a ship in a bottle
I think you need to remove the alternator in addition to at least the left intake manifold.

To help confirm your diagnosis that 9 and 11 need replacing , suggest you dismantle 9 and look for rust or other problems. It is just a simple check valve.
11 also can get rusty.Easy to test with a vacuum source.
I suggest this because it would be a pity to put all this back together and find there is still a fault -like a vacuum leak.
Others may have much better suggestions for diagnostics.
Note there may be sources of generic parts for both.

Like Schnell says, there can be vacuum leaks. The vacuum hoses get brittle and break, especially if you are in there moving things around. Also do a vacuum check on the reservoir (#6). Mine had a hairline crack - took me two days to track that down.
