I like to tinker with everything, i have since i was a kid, even back then as soon as i got something i would go hide away and take it apart.... sometimes even get it back together lol
these days i like putting things together as well, i am in the process of upgrading my stereo and i like doing it myself... some challenges on the 996 of course
focals in the dash, yeah they dont fit, a 3d printer and a micrometer can come in handy, after a few measurements and a few failed prints of different designs i have found a solution
the printer in action
the top of the speakers, you can see the ring that slides down inside the speaker covers
Here you can see the tabs after being dremeled off, and the speakers friction fit inside of the rings. I will add a little glue or silicone just to be sure they dont come out.
Here you can see the inside.ring sliding inside, again friction fit but i plan to put a couple small screws in the side as well
and finally once its in its final location
the tweeters i dremeled off everything but two tabs and then customized them so the slots in the tweeters fit, add some silicone around the outside and all should be good
then all together and looking good (minus the glue /screws)
Hey I think the USB bracket is great! I have access to a 3d printer at work and if you would be willing to share the files or a link to them I would appreciate it. Thats a great replacement for the lighter.
the USB bracket is pretty simple, although I have not validated it fits in the car but from photos it should
you just cut off the back part as you can see in the photo and then put the nut on there
I got it from ebay 17 bucks, there is a slight gap around it as you can see but I am vinyl wrapping the trim anyway so I am not to concerned by that http://www.ebay.com/itm/111920368411?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
if you want to wait longer looks like you can get it from CN for 11 bucks http://www.ebay.com/itm/Male-to-Fema...3D111920368411
Crap i just realized a possible issue, these subs are dual voice coil @ 2 ohm, i just saw 2ohm and went perfect and ordered them. The easy solution would have been to buy the 1ohm one and put the 2 voice coils in series for 2ohm
so in series these are 4ohm, in parallel its 1 ohm
can the stock (non bose) amp handle 1 ohm? definitely I dont want to use 4ohm on the stock amp
i plan to replace the stock amp anyway I just didnt plan for it at the moment
Be sure to upload those parts to thingiverse...great contribution.
Did you print ABS or PLA?
yeah thats a good idea
i used pla, i tried bending the crap out of it and amazingly it was far stronger than i expected
didnt have any black ABS but yeah that would be stronger, but for this I dont see a problem, if it was a 12" sub I would be concerned with the bass rattling it apart though lol
