Headed to Pick this up the 02 C4 cab tomorrow...
Hi all, I'ave been lurking for awhile and finally joined recently. This will be my first Porsche, fell in love with them when I was a kid and I am 47 now. A few years ago I realized I could actually afford a 911 and could not believe how affordable the 996's were.
As it is with most things in life if something is too good to be true it generally is. After a bit of reading I came across the the dreaded IMS issue, it scared me off and I put the idea of Porsche ownership on the back burner for awhile. About 6 months ago I starting reading about the 996 again and decided the IMS issue isn't a reason to not buy one. So began my scouring of Craigslist and eBay. Mostly looking just to see what was out there and how the market was. A bit to my surprise there were a huge amount of 996's available for sale locally and in near by states.
When I started looking I really wasn't sure exactly what I wanted, but as I continued my search I decided a C4 was the ticket and convertible too. Beyond that I really wasn't sure what I wanted. As you all know the options these cars have is nearly endless and so i just kept looking until I came across something I really liked. I will say silver seems to be the most popular color out there and the car does look good in silver. Really good, but I ended up with the beautiful girl below.
The car had one owner for 99% of its life and has documentation going back to 02. The woman who owned it even did the window wipers at the dealership. 108K miles, hard top, only "damage" was a lower bumper scrape that was repaired years ago. The interior looks almost flawless...
I fly to Northern California from AZ in the morning to pick it up and drive back...
Pics are from the current owner...Stay tuned for road trip pics soon...

Your best, and one of the cheapest mods if you are in AZ is the third radiator mod, clean the outer rads, and the 160F thermostat. Just one Texans op-ed.

Thank you! I'll have to look up the radiator mod...I think I have read something about it, but don't remember much. Cheers!

Congrats and welcome!
Pretty car. I think you picked a nice one. Looks and sounds like it was well cared for.
GREAT IDEA to take your son with you to pick up the car. I have made 3 fly out - drive home trips to pick up Porsches with family members. They become great memories that you will share with that family member the rest of your life. Remember to stop to take pics along the way.
Now, if you venture to the Phoenix area, beware of Gonzo (black 997) and Kalashnikov (Russian kid driving an AMG MBZ and likely shirtless). Otherwise, your Porsche experience will probably take a nosedive for the worse.
And take good notes while in Vegas. We'll see you back there on the June 10-11 weekend!
Enjoy!

Avail in easy to use kit form from Pelican parts. Or, you can buy the exact same rad on rockauto.com, and get the hoses and hardware from 928srus.com, ask for Roger. Less costly, but a bit more work.
