Anyone replaced their battery with an Optima?
I am the lucky recipient of a certificate good for the Optima battery of my choice (has to be used in the next 5 months). I don't "need" a new battery, but I have certainly heard good things about them and they appear to weigh less than traditional ones. There seem to be several options (red top, yellow top, different sizes, etc.). Other than making sure that it physically fits into the space, any guidance on which one to choose?

I installed a Red Top 75/35 in my 996 race car last spring. It saved about 20 lbs and worked great. The different colored tops identify batteries for different purposes. You will want a red top but probably a different model than I went for. I think 34 or 34/78 are better suited for daily drivers. To install it you will either need to purchase an adapter kit that allows you to use the OEM mounting hardware or do something custom. You also may need to extend your cables. I didn't need to but apparently others have.

Go the the battry selector and choose your vehicle. In my case, there are no available batteries for any automobile. Must be a glitch in their website. FWIW, my 996 from July 1998 still has the original batteries, 26K miles, with the trickle charger. Very well worth the investment.
