I actually had to ask for a manager, the teller couldn't quite grasp concept that the check I was depositing might be bad.

ETA: and I did wait a few days to verify it cleared.

Sold! I'm not happy but at least this is one thing i don't have to deal with. If this was later in life, i might have had more time to deal with it on a long term level.
