Default Fabspeed woes

A little Public service announcement...

I copped the intake upgrade hose on the cheap from ebay. The seller didn't sell the caron fiber plug that needs to be installed with it though so I called Fabspeed to order the plug. After I was placed on hold for 5 mins they quoted me $70 for the part. Ok...whatever. I get it..rip me off because I didn't buy the whole unit. I ended up paying for the part, but my mechanic found a Porsche OEM plug that fit exactly into that open space on the airbox. Cool! A Porsche part AND I can save $70!!! Sweet.

Well, I called Fabspeed to return it and at first they gave me a hard time, but eventually gave me an RMA# to return it. They said that they will need to charge me 20% "restocking fee"..again..ok..fine.

I sent the part back and they got right back to me within a business day. AWESOME! Great service... I got the credit receipt back and they ended up charging me more money than the 20% they already quoted me. When I inquired they now said in addition to the "restocking fee" I was all of the sudden responsible for a "handling fee" of $10. What?!?!? At this point it was all about sales and customer service so I sent a response back to the Rep and the GM that I am still waiting for them to respond to. I don't get how this company just decided to tax me so heavily for a return.

My complaint isn't just about the money, but I was looking forward to working with them on different upgrades I was considering for my car once I put it on the track and understood how I wanted it to drive so this purchase was just a test buy, but I don't think I'll be back.

Just wanted to pass my experience to the forum. They have a good reputation, but they lost this guy for good.

If you have verified that how you were treated contravenes Fabspeed's terms and conditions, by all means post up.

Here's what I see when I look at their terms and conditions:

RESTOCKING FEES
Fabspeed Motor sport reserves the right to charge a 25% restocking fee on any opened box item.

...

SHIPPING FEES ON RETURNS
If an order was shipped with free shipping, and the order is the returned, we reserve the right to charge the customer for the original shipping. Return shipping charges from the customer to us will only be credited in circumstances of warranty or incorrect shipment.

How was your experience different than what Fabspeed posts publicly as their return policy?

You bought an incomplete product at auction, contacted Fabspeed to buy the "right" product, then found a cheap plug that will work just as well (I'm curious which Porsche part was used for this purpose) and returned the only item you've ever purchased from Fabspeed, not because it was incorrect for your application or defective but because you subsequently found the part cheaper somewhere else?

It sounds like they undercharged you by 5%.

Clearly you are not as important as you think you are.

5 minute hold! I trust your phone service provider also charged you for this time? Scoundrels!

Restocking fee of 20%!

Emails returned within 24hrs - the horror!

Involving a GM on a $70 part return when the company routinely fields $2k / 5k / 10k orders. I'm guessing your departure from the client list will be celebrated with an open bar this evening.

Nothing is free bud, it aint the country club on pop's tab.

I was responding to your "SPECIFIC" comment.

I appreciate your thoroughness, but if they had charged me the 25% and been consistent with their policy I would have had no issues. My issue is that when I purchase a $70 part and get back $40 there is a problem because the math doesn't work.

On the plus side, once you've put the car on the track you'll probably realize that the stock airbox works better; if that happens more than 30 days from now, you actually came out ahead.

You're being petulant about being charged pursuant to the seller's written terms and conditions and we're the trolls?

That's fine, just making sure I understand the situation.

I have a prediction. You will find life much more fulfilling if you don't take yourself so freakin seriously.

I mean, all trolling and sarcasm aside, I had Fabspeed's competition Carbon Fiber intake on my 996, and it rubbed in several places... it looked good, and sounded good, but as far as fitment was concerned, it might as well have been from China, except for the exorbitant price tag.

Mine as well - minor rub on the fan on the rear decklid being the main one. I'm working on adjusting a new set of air filters today actually - need to clear up the driver's side spacing so they don't touch any wiring. The elegant solution that would not only fix these minor rubs and also address the water ingestion is to surround the filters with a true airbox similar to the 997 style powerkit. Maybe something aside from self immolation can come of this thread afterall
