Default Great Fall Day

Some friends and I took advantage of possibly one of the last good fall days to go on a relatively long drive through South East Ohio. We put 400 miles on the cars today on routes 93, 83, 78, 555 and 26. The Triple Nickel (555) was listed years ago by Road and Track as one of the best roads in the nation. It does not disappoint. Much of it has new pavement, combined with constant turns, twists and elevation changes made for a great drive.
We stopped at the Big Muskie for a few pictures. This is the bucket to the largest ever drag line coal excavator in the world.
I'm tired, but what a great day!

Did you go anywhere near Marietta College on your road trip? I went there in the late 60s early 70s and loved some of the roads in my AH bug-eye sprite in SE Ohio, but I don't recall any of the route numbers. Nice pics!

We were in Marietta as we crossed from the Triple Nickel over to 26 north. Didn't pay attention to see the college.
Thanks for the compliment on the picks. That bucket is amazing how big it is.

Tdream1, Thanks. We wanted to take advantage of the fall colors to get more photos, but we were having way too much fun on the roads to stop.

Having driven most, if not all, of these roads on our cross-country trip this spring: fantastic roads! 26 is utterly perfect. Glad you guys got to enjoy it before winter hits.

I completely understand that logic. I would have done the same thing.

Elumere, if you drove most of those roads on a cross country trip, I envy you! One; you drove some great roads two; you had plenty of time cause these are some pretty remote areas of Ohio.

We took 3 weeks, did 7000 miles. Once we found scenicbyways.info - THE tool for road trip planning if you wanna avoid just driving straight - on day 3 into our trip, our route changed daily to accomodate tons of twisty roads. So very worth it. Plus, it was a great way to bond with the car, having purchased it on day 0 of our trip..

Thanks for the website. Looks very cool, I will use this the next time we plan a trip. Usually it's just been start with an idea of where we want to go and then take a turn and try a road.

It's fantastic, that site. We had a few points we wanted to hit on our trip, a rough timeline and then just took it from there, day by day.

The best way to roadtrip, in my opinion. Or just drive.

Ps: we even used paper maps for parts of it. Cowering over the map the night before, one can find lots of interesting roads that way, too.
