I never put the car on the dyno. The hp is approximately.

Intentionally open and my guess was to allow some air to make it to the brake cooling ducts attached to the LCA... but I'm usually wrong. =)

You spent all this money and have no idea what it puts down or at least what it can do in the 1/4?

For your reference we installed the VF Supercharger kit on a 2002 996 C4S with our Catbypass X-Pipe and Maxflo Mufflers, and the car made 408whp on our dynojet. Accounting for 15-20% drivetrain loss, crank horsepower would be 470-490hp.

Wouldn't drivetrain loss be higher with an AWD car? What was the baseline dyno number before all the work was done?

Have you taken it routinely up to redline?

This has nothing to do with taking care of it. What it means is that this engine was not tested to see if it can stand up to the supercharger. A rather important info to a unsuspecting buyer.

FILE UNDER <FWIW>
I've ridden in the above mentioned Fabspeed tuned VF C4S. We went for a ride in my Fabspeed tuned 3.4 '99 C2 and then traded and I rode shotgun in the C4S.

Here are my impressions: when we took off I was expecting (but know I shouldn't have been) more impressive pickup lower. It felt like a robust stock motor. My car is about 2780lbs so it feels light with lightweight track wheels, rotors, race seats, no rear seats, etc. The C4S was a fully loaded, leather interior, with giant tires.

So we are riding along, then 4500rpm hit and the power built like a freight train all the way until redline. So, we hit the highway and did some pulls. Wow!!

You drive it like your normal 996, but when it starts to go in your 996, the VF Car is GONE. If you compare the power to a turbo, a turbo gives you that torque shove even if you are a gear high, but is gone by 6500rpm. The SC car builds power, but if you drive it like an NA car (rev it to 6800-7) the power is right there when you shift. It felt like a stock car driving on the streets to the highway. You could hear the SC a little over his MaxFlow exhaust until we were on it.

It Was Awesome. It still felt like a Porsche and was very tractable.

Sorry for the thread jack... but I think the SC is amazingly fun and puts the car into the expected speed category the looks promise.

No baseline as my client did the installation himself and brought it in for final dyno tuning. Drivetrain loss depends on the AWD car, it is never the same and often different from vehicle to vehicle. I'm certainly not going to take the hours of time to scientifically calculate the exact percentage on that particular car without a baseline haha, hence the approximation of drivetrain percentage we would expect to come from that car.

I beg to differ on that. VF did extensive testing on their supercharger kits and are designed within parameters to ensure longevity with the factory engine. They make a great product that is run with success on many, very happy 996/997 owners as well as many other makes/model vehicles up to and including the new Lamborghini Huracan. Proper maintenance and care of the engine and supercharger system would dictate perfectly acceptable longevity of the setup and a thrilled owner of the setup

My brother have you ever heard of any VF eng customers of blowing their engines? Nope! Please stop posting BS. Thanks
