![Question](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I'm torn. I've ordered the 40th Anniversary 996, and am now having second thoughts! I'm trying to determine if I should lean towards the GT3 instead. There are several factors that I would appreciate some input on.
1) The 40th annv has a base price of $90K. How much more will a GT3 set me back (realistically)?
2) Is a GT3 ok for every day driving (I average about 6,000 miles a year)?
3) With only 35hp less than the GT3, shouldn't the 40th annv also be a stellar performer?
4) Shouldn't the 40th annv hold its value well, since (unlike prev annv models) it's so much more than just a "badged" car?
5) Should I scrap the whole idea and keep what I have ( http://www.ofoto.com/I.jsp?c=19rxn36...&x=0&y=-84oo0e) until the 997 comes out? My only complaint with my current car is the lack of power. I would guess that it puts out 300hp, but it's just not enough for me. I originally purchased it with the intent of supercharging it, but have decided that it is too nice to "hack up".
I would appreciate your opinions.
Thanks,
Philip

If Daily Driver.. forget the GT3... too stiff, too focused, no PSM, tires are more $$ to replace than "regular"
The 40th car is nicely optioned, still a "badged" car.... and no special edition Porsche has retained any real value when you concider the "deal you could make on a comparably equiped non-special edition..
Turbo's are availale at good, read $10,000+, discounts and since there will be only 84 turbo's for 2004.. well they will retain their value better than then 100's of GT3 and 1000+ 40th ediction 996's..
The turbo is a practical an every day driver, and with 4wd better than the 40th, and has the performance of a Gt3...
Slight used turbo's are available in the $90-100K range...
Get A turbo.... you will not regret.....

The GT-3 will cost $9,900 more. Totally base model, but w/ .1 or .2 sec slower than a Turbo, you'll get the feel a Real 2-wheel 911 w/ 380HP. Hey 5-6K miles a few bumps?? Goose bumps are more like it! Spend 2-4K more for a few goodies if you think you need 'em.
Just my .02 cents.

They are all great cars, the GT3 is not an ideal street car..it's too low. The turbo is expensive...and alot have been sold in the last few years?? The 40 th anniversary car is the real deal but why not order one and wait till it gets reviewed and nip down to a porsche garage that gets one in early to check it out...(you can always change your order for a GT3 or TT) as there will be many potential buyers for the anniversary cars looks only ...forget the goodies in it. It is a beautiful looking car

For my purposes, I'd get the GT3. I prefer the LSD over the PSM, prefer NA over Turbos, and very much enjoy 2wd over Awd. But thats just me. Either car is a great car. In most cases, cars aren't good investments so I wouldn't worry too much about depreciation. Since you don't drive very much, I wouldn't worry too much about the ride (unless you take clients out) but then I haven 't had an opportunity to ride in one either. I've seen a GT3 or two on the road and yes, they do seem a little low but I don't believe they're any lower then 996s that upgraded to coilovers.
Have fun deciding what to get.... I wouldn't mind having your problems about deciding what to get. =)

i replied in 993 forum as well.
to add to that:
if you asked this question, i don't think you really are in love with GT3. and if you do get GT3, i bet you will get rid of it soon. it's not a comfy car. and if you don't keep your rpm above 5k 90% of the time you drive, you will not appreciate what the car is about.
TT then may be a better choice, so is C4S.

Yeah, scrap the idea of a gt3. They are amazing cars, but they are very purpose built vehicles, unless that 6k will be track driving, you should consider something else.
Tho the 40th anniv is a great looking car, you could probably get a stellar deal on a new my03 turbo, and have oodles more power, and AWD to boot.
But hey they are all porsches so you really can't go wrong...

I agree with Mooty 100%. If you have to ask the question, GT3 is NOT for you. Anniversary edition will depreciate just the same as a regular 996, but if you like the standard features (ie .colour, pre-selected options, etc.), then go for it, otherwise order a C2 the way you want it.

I'm pretty sure my dealer, Bert Smith here in Saint Petersburg, has some 2003 C2s sitting on the lot. I bet you ca get a great deal on an '03 C2. I'm loving my '03 C2 six speed with PSM, Xenons, premium stereo on disk changer. It's performance is AWESOME, better than any car I've owned or driven, and it's an excellent daily driver.

GT3 all the way... limited production. Better engine and tranny... truer to the heritage... better resale value (I would think)... I would still keep the 993 to experience how it was back when the car was air/oil cooled...

Hindsight is 20/20. The 40th anniversary has indeed depreciated considerably with retail asking prices between $38 and $48K with a median of ~$40K for low-milage examples (15K to 30K miles). Retail asking prices for GT3s are quite high, between $50K and $70K--but many of them are very low mileage cars (terrible road cars, awesome track cars).
