Is there a way to feed reverse/backup rear view camera signal to display on the PCM screen ?
I have a 2001 996 C4 so may have the old PCM-1 ?

By design, the PCM 1.0 did support backup sensors, but didn't support a video display (with distance graphics) like modern backup camera systems as an option. However, anything is possible because the unit is essentially a video display, but it would take some major work studying the schematics to design a workable mod. There are some mods floating around, but I wouldn't advise it without knowing the risks involved.

Personally, if you really want backup camera technology, you should upgrade your HU, to a double DIN unit that support GPS navigation and backup cameras. It's a major install, but many people have done it successfully. You're looking at a lot of money too for the convenience.

So looks like the PCM-1 does not have any video-in port for simple plug in of camera.
I may just install a separate system with camera, wireless transmitter+receive and a small LCD monitor for ~$40.

 

This is a interesting idea... backup camera on a rearview mirror for the 996.
