Gents, My son sent this to me, I was wondering if anyone ever used these type of Headers - Cheap Price, just not sure if the product is cheap as well -
Headers are not a component you want to cheap out on. Porsche OEM exhaust system is one of the best ever designed. Yes it's crazy expensive, but it works and stays working for a long time.
Those M96 eBay headers...sometimes they're fine; sometimes the collectors are so full of weld slag they can't possibly flow well. Sometimes they bolt right up; the pair I got for my Boxster were fine but another guy's were so warped that he had to use two gaskets to get them to seal.
The ARE cheap in all interpretations - I guess on the plus side cheap headers are one of the least expensive ways to reduce horsepower on the M96. If the goal is a louder yet slower car, these are definitely a good choice.
Although the factory headers on these cars don't look like they'd be very efficient or good for making power, they are the best design you're going to find. The only real upgrade is 997S headers.
Indeed! I have them on my car right now. I just finished a head rebuild/IMS Solution install on my car so I have been keeping the revs under 3.5k, but they seem very nice and provide a different tone. My but dunno says there's definitely no low end torque loss, and probably a bit of gain.... Once i get more revs/ miles on them, I'll let you know further impressions.
In my "flashing check engine light thread" I have a post where I have the 997S headers polished up. They look good too!
I Currently have eBay headers installed on my car. Im probably going to change them back to stock since the loss in horsepower is documented. They definitely look nice.
Can any engineer here provide some logic as to what the best Header solution for the M96 engine would be?
Why do the eBay headers that are identical to the Fabspeed headers loose HP? Do the fabspeed headers lose HP also?
I've not had a set of ebay Porsche headers, but I have had them for another car. No inner welds were ground down, the collectors looked like a welding student had played around with old rods inside it. Any complex bends meant 2 piece primaries instead of 1. Most junctions are overlapped instead of like tubing butted against each other. Most of this stuff sounds trivial, but its the difference between a quality product and a cheaply made copy.
