Default First time oil change?

Changed my oil and filter today for the first time. I put 9qt's back in and drove it around a few minutes then let it sit for a couple hours. Is this where it should be on the gauge?

Yes. Check it again in the morning cold. Or don't worry about it for a few thousand miles

Yeah, about. A bar or two low when "cold" is about right cause the oil expands when hot and when checked hot should be a bar or two higher, but not above the full or max line. 'course, just a couple of hours sitting won't let the oil cool down that much.

It is important to warm the engine up to temperature then drain the oil for 20 minutes then add in the right amount of oil. My info is the factory issues fill amounts for a 20 minute drain interval and for an overnight drain interval. (Newer models get a longer, 1 hour I think, drain interval.)

Then add back in the amount of oil the factory says and get the engine up to temperature again and the oil hot then check the level. Because proper procedure was followed and the right amount of oil was added back into the engine when the level is checked this is used to confirm the in-dash oil level display shows the correct level.

IOWs, the oil change time is when the electronic oil level sensor in the engine block is confirmed to be working right, along with of course changing the oil and filter.

Along the same line, make sure you drive the car long enough to warm up the oil to operating temp. Then leave it alone enough time (overnight) so most oil drains back to the sump.

Thanks guys. The engine was up to temp when I drained the oil. I let it drain for about 30 min. Ill check it again in the morning. I'm also going to cut open the filter and inspect it. I'll post picture of the results.

Here's the filter. Just very few tiny pieces of shinny stuff.
