996 RSR starter sound?
What is going on here, why do RSRs starting up sound like a sword is being drawn from a metal sheath with all those metallic noises. Is it a different starter motor from what we have in our 996 turbo/non turbos?

Sounds about normal to me. Competiion cars have less sound deadening. Firmer bushings. Headers. More highly tuned engines.
They always sound harsher than their street counterparts and this includes during starting too.
Even street engines can be a bit harsh when starting especially in enclosed spaces. I remember a few years ago in a fast food drive through line waiting for my order I turned off the engine of my 2006 GTO. As soon as I saw my order coming towards the window I started the engine and the sound caused the person at the window to jump.
