Default First oil change on new car do I need to worry

I have put about 500 miles on the car since purchase. Car is excellent, no issues.

Changed oil tonight, had my oil sample kit handy so will send that in.

Honestly I have never really paid much attention to the oil coming out of other cars I have owned. The IMS issue on this car of course has me paranoid.

I noticed that after the oil had drained into my catch pan there was a slight amount of sediment, some sparkles.

I then cut the filter open, and it looked perfectly clear.

I let the sump drain with the car on a slight angle.

Inside the plastic filter housing nothing but clear oil.

Anyone else have similar experience?

A clean filter is a good sign. I wouldn't worry about the sparkles, that's fairly normal. The Oil Analysis will give you a lot more insight though. Just search this forum for "Blackstone" and post your results there. You can usually get some good feedback and its always good to see what other reports look like.

You need a magnetic drain plug to collect any particles

it looks fine, don't worry about it. I agree with the magnetic drain plug suggestion, for $24 bucks why not.

That oil looks a little blue to me. I'd have that checked...

Why did you feel a need to change the oil after 500 miles?

He didn't say that the oil had 500 miles on it, he said HE had driven the car 500 miles since purchase. Always nice to start establishing a service history if there isn't one with the car.

I actually have a helpful answer, maybe got the first time ever.

And the answer is, it depends. If it was 590 miles since your last oil change, you need to get it looked at. If was 5000+ miles, it is normal. I always had a little on my drain plug and compared to pics on line and it was normal. If it was 10,000 miles then you are in great shape.

So get a magnetic drain plug and change the oil in 1000 miles and inspect.
