Trunk lid adjustment

Trunk lid adjustment
Any advice on adjustment? When I activate the lid release, the lid barely moves. I have to slide my fingers under the edge to lift it further, then release the catch with the red lever. I appreciate any help.

This sounds normal to me. As long as the primary catch releases when you pull the lever/hit the button, it's working. The hood does not pop up much when the primary releases. The secondary catch (the red lever) is there as a safety device and is intended to keep the hood from blowing back into the windscreen if the primary is released by accident when moving.

I'm like Kerry...the lid only lifts ~ 1/4 inch. When the car was new (MY 2002), it definitely popped open further. Could it be the shocks? Wouldn't expect them to go out so soon. There must be some ability to adjust it.

The hood is pushed up by a spring, not the hood shocks. Perhaps the hood spring has gotten more compressed since the car was new. Not sure if there is an adjustment for this short of replacing the spring and or latch mechanism. FWIW... My car is new and I do not feel that the hood pops open any more than my 99 model did.

Could be the latch mechanism is going. Not sure on the '02. Just replaced mine on my '99 for this reason. Saw it was barely opening, then I got the dreaded honk on arming the car signal. Knew it was the microswitch. An easy 30 min DIY project.
On yours though, you may be dealing with a different mechanism.
