Smarttop - New version
Well, after 5 years, my smarttop controller began behaving peculiarly. On hot days, the top would open fine, but would not close. Some days, the top would close to a point and then stop.
After working with Stefan at mod4cars (a great guy) to try to fix, it was apparent that the device needed parts which are no longer available. As a consolidation, I got a discount off of a new controller. I lived with the old one for a while, but decided to bite the bullet and I ordered a new controller.
I must say, it has some neat updated features.
1. load operational codes and preferences in with your pc.(I did have to dload the driver for the USB device off of the website).
2. More control over max speed that you open & close top.
3. When closing top, you can start process, shut down engine, remove key and walk away.
4. Use fob to open and close (although this takes some practice to get the timing right).
5. Close / open rear windows with top down (no need to put finger in the locking mechanism.
Everything working fine, so far. Ultimate test will be on a hot day to see if the top closes!!

I have it in my 997 cabriolet. It's very nice.

Hey babylonboots, any advice on getting the timing right for the key fob open/close?
I've read the instructions and watched the videos showing use of the key fob, but just can't seem to get the timing right! Thanks.

You have to count ~1 sec each. It takes practice
Hold fob for 2 count - release for one count.
Repeat 2 more times.
