Slak: Thanks for the vid. It was fun until the end. She does sing a pretty song, glad you are bringing her back. The "blue" screen at the end was fortunate, not sure I would want to be able to see that over and over. Glad you are ok. Keep us updated with pics.

Slakker, the car sounds great!!!! I had muffler bypass pipes on mine this past summer and it sounded just like your car. Unfortunately it was way too loud for a street car with my wife.

I'm running magnaflo 14158 mufflers (Amazon) that I had a local muffler shop plumb in directly off the headers. Total cost $500. Not quiet, but much more tolerable outside the car than the straight bypasses and no performance loss.

Wow. Thanks for sharing. That's a serious "code brown".

Car really seems dialed in well. Smooth driving up until the code brown too

There was definitely a nice adrenaline rush happening for sure.

Mod of the Day: replaced my least favorite bolt on the entire car with an M6 stud. Porsche part# 996 062 002 02 or fastenal has them as well. Caliper bolts are next on the list of getting "studded."

Some more 996 video fun, way to close a call when missing a downshift and grabbing first.

Damn, way to get the clutch back in. I was expecting to hear 9,000RPM and *BANG*.

Also: Way to NOT shout "F**K F**K F**K" at the horde of oncoming cars. Pretty sure I would have screamed all a-girlishly.

It was my first club race weekend in the car, had a great start, and was first place in class with the second place H car (Cayman) on my bumper. As you can see in the video, the 997 cup car in front of me had been holding me up for the 3 previous laps, that's when I was swearing over the radio as there was no way I was going to pass him with the gap he pulled on the straights. You can see in the video my first attempt at a downshift to third did not go, The second attempt went in but in 1st and when I let the clutch out the rear wheels instantly locked up.
I was extremely lucky one not to blow the motor and two not to have to buy cheep 996 body parts.
The only expense was a new shifter and cable assembly from Numeric.

These things do go round....;0

I later discovered the rear driver side shock upper nut decided to go loose making the car a handful, a bit of a lift, and the rest of story...

These JRZ 3-way Cup shocks have been kicking my butt for months. But tonight, I finally broke down and did what I should have done in the beginning, made some spacers. The problem isn't just that they are 1 3/4" shorter in the rear than a C2/GT3 shock, but that they only have a 3 1/2" stroke. You need 2" of droop and the remaining 1" - 1 1/2" for compression. So you have a 1/2" at most to adjust their height since you are going to have to rob from droop or compression to do it. So spacers are the only way to go.

I had the local metal supermarket cut me 1" slices of 5" aluminum rod stock. I then drilled 1/2" holes for the bolts and used a 2 1/2" bimetal hole saw to cut out the center. That took awhile to say the least. Add in some 70mm bolts and voila. This will put my rear ride height around 4 1/4" and I'll run the fronts at 3 7/8 for now.
