Some Light Weekend Mods

Why do you guys still wanna use the crappy CDR-220's and put a band-aid retrofit on it? Don't really understand that one. Even with upgraded speakers, it still sounds bad IMO.
Here's a new offering from Porsche if you haven't seen it yet.

Does it come with a free pair of bifocals?
I have a sneaky suspicion that entering an address on that thing SUCKS.
OP, I personally don't dig the color - but damn, you do good work. I hope the snowflakes on the cluster aren't new - that would suck.

I don't want a NAV unit, just a way to play music. If you're going to go through all of that trouble, why not install a double din unit?
#19
Just buy a decent single din aftermarket head. It's not like the 996 is a classic concours car.

Ya, after coming out of a 2014 535i Msport that was so nice I would forget I was even driving, I'm trying to keep a "less is more" racing theme. So I'd like a little more functionality but not some cheesy, bright colored, Japanese special. But I'm not paying $300 for for a cdr-220 either so I may just have to start taking my Mobi Cube on road trips.

I really like lime green, I plan to do my calipers in the same color
I prefer the suede feel over anything, my old car had black suede
No the snowflakes arent new, is there any way to fix it without buying panels btw??
#22
Also I plan on a double din in the future but I found this cdr220 for $50 in Kentucky after realizing the aux cord I purchased wouldnt fit my cdr210 so I did the "upgrade" for the time being

There's a handful of very discreet single din units out there without breaking the bank if you look. You might want to find a NOS older Blaupunkt or Nakamichi unit if you want it to seemlessly blend in.

Make sure it comes with the radio code. Not sure if it's possible to recover it without it or not.

I still have my 535iX and am lucky to have the Logic7 audio option. For my 996, I got a very subtle Eclipse single din unit. It's understated but has very good features/performance. The 535i was the nicest all around car I've owned. To me they are the perfect balance and I loved the Idrive interface. But when I was ready to move on after having it for 6 months I knew I had some serious issues. One of my best friends has it now so I still get to ride in it and take it for a spin every once in awhile.
Which eclipse model did you go with? I hadn't thought about a blaupunkt. My uncles new '84 (IIRC) Gold Targa came with a blaupunkt. 1st Porsche I ever rode in and eventually got to drive it one time.

Clearly, the OP does not have small children. Those of you who do, understand the statement.
It's different from the norm. Enjoy!

I think this radio is for 993 and older...

I definitely would but to be honest it was sort of a hassle with that part of the modding. The stock Porsche needles come dyed the orange color so they can't to my knowledge be repainted. I couldnt find a source for clear porsche needles so I had to visit the junkyard and find a couple different cars which the right size needles that are repaintable so these were from a few different donors and I cant remember which cars exactly. I honestly ended up being lucky finding the right needles as you not only need the right lenght but also the right diameter for the pin itself.
Also the two outer needles I left white because I thought it would look cool 😊
