Default Headlight Protection?

So my headlights have yellowed over for the second time. I am in the process of sanding and polishing.

Is their anything you guys have done, with success, to keep this from happening so frequently??

Thanks,
John

I put the expel cover film on my '04 several years ago. Has held up very well. I have also done the Helmsman spar urethane treatment on other headlights with good results. Most importantly, once you've restored the lenses, you have to apply something immediately to block the UV or the yellowing will return quickly.

Clear coat it next time. My last set of headlights(bmw) have lasted over 5 years and still going strong.

Well, I've coated a few headlights now. First one, I took to a body shop to have them clear coat it with ppg clear. Second one I cleared myself with Spraymax 2k IIRC. If you're going to use a rattle can, you definitely want to use the ones that say "for professional use only", and " respitatory mask is required or mandatory". This is the good stuff that lasts and goes on thick like a professional spray gun.

Spraymax is a winner.

I put Lamin-X on mine after polishing. It's only been 6 months but they are still crystal clear. Seems like a nice bonus to have the surface protection as well.

Hey Guys... gotta question on this topic. My front light assemblies on my '03 Cab look brand new, but while I was cleaning and working on one of them (had to re-aim the HID lens because it was shooting too high), I noticed what looked to be a clear plastic covering over each one. Like a clear vinyl wrap sort of thing. Is this factory installed or was this added after market?

I installed Lamin-X covers on mine two years ago after sanding and polishing. They still look as good as when I installed. I tried clearcoating myself first but gave up trying to get a perfect finish.

ECS Tuning has the Lamin-X covers for about $60. They take a bit of patience to install and the fit wasn't perfect (ie the holes for the headlight washers were larger than I would have liked) but otherwise I'm very happy with them.
