Fire Extinguisher

I keep mine in the frunk.
I wonder if the DIY clamps would stay put during track events, lest I send a red rocket thru the windshield. It's hard enough balancing my coffee cup.

Late to the party but I have one of these in my GTO. Why on earth would I need one in the 996?

I have one from Kap Industries out is Australia.
It was the only brand I could find for my BMW 135i.
It was also the cheapest i und for Indy for my Porsche.
I bought it even before I bought my 996.
I knew I’d want one right away.

One I made from Sheet aluminum Bolts to holes in front of Pass Seat
I forgot I had this left over from my 986S w Sport Seats. Guess after seeing that Vette, I should put it in the Targa.
After I get it re-certified
Sheet aluminum w Grade 8 Allen bolts/Capsulated nuts 5 lbs Halon 1211
Bracket held off Floor and Moves with Seat.

Unless the extinguisher is a descent size, unfortunately it won't do anything in an engine fire. Most of the ones that people install in their cars are way too small, including the ones installed in front of the passenger seat. You need one that's at least twice the size that's shown in front of that passenger seat to have any chance of putting out an engine fire. Save your money people.

I think it depends on extinguishing material
5lbs of Halon or Halontron will put out most engine fires, I haven't checked using it on a Top Fuel fire, that requires 20 lbs, if not mistaken according to rules.
Now that Corvette engine might be a challenge, but if caught early enough it would. I'm sure he wish he had something after 4 years work.
I used my previous one on a guys 944 fuel rail that caught on fire at a Mid Ohio event. Guy was very appreciative, first that I stopped and that it wasn't covered in Extinguisher Dust when out.
He was happy to reimburse me.
The one thing to keep in mind when buying these. Powder works but can be an issue later when trying to clean up,
The other is to have it checked regularly at a know service site like Silco, Amerex, etc.
I wouldn't discourage anyone from not having something available and know how to use it (start at base of flames) How many of you have something in your garage ? Or Kitchen ?

R you sure you meant 90 Deg turn ?
Take that Rennline one and rotate 90 degrees. Now you can still use the under-seat area for passenger storage, and still easily reach the extinguisher. For a DD car this makes more sense than something that not only blocks the under-seat area, but protrudes into the passenger footwell.
I don't have this one, but the BK one I modeled mine after didn't really protrude into leg space. unless you draw you legs back, my wife didn't even notice it was there.
As far as underneath seat. There isn't much room there anyway, and it keeps things from getting under seat that are a bitch to retrieve. I could see behind the seat, but most organizations want you to be able to see it, to retrieve it.

I need to buy an extinguisher, and a roll bar mount. Suggestions? I think maybe Blue Chip had a scratch start extinguisher that looked promising. I didn't save the link. Let's see what you got! BTW 808Bill, that's pretty cool too!
