Default OEM X51 pan/baffle question

Hi.
I just dropped the pan on my 01 C4 in preparation for installing the Guardian Jr chip detector and the OEM X51 baffle and pan I purchased.
To my surprise, the baffle will not go up into the sump area far enough for the pan flange to seat on the engine housing.

There is a gap of 1/16th to 1/8th inch. It will rock side to side and it appears that the fulcrum point is roughly 5 inches to the right of the left side.

Anyone seen something like this?

THanks for looking

I bet you're running into the same scenario I did when installing the FVD Motorsports oil pan. It's very similar to the OEM X51 baffle setup.

This post may shed some light on how to angle the pan to get it to seal fully. The X51 baffles are much more stable and rigid - this means that you can't simply lift it into place like your standard pan.

Here's how I got it to fit:
1. Test fit it several times to get the process down
2. Begin lifting the pan straight on
3. Slightly tilt the pan toward the (US) passenger side until it almost touches
4. Apply firm pressure toward the passenger side as you push the driver's side of the pan up
5. Firmly push the entire pan into place while just sliding it into alignment

So, the issue may be with the 'rubber' bits that extend above the edge of the baffle having a firm contact with the sump surface?

Not really sure it's an issue - just a less pliable baffle material. You should be able to see where the top of the baffle is making contact with the engine case and angle / slide the pan into place.

It's going to take some trial and error. Do lots of test fits and be patient.

I'll give it a try and see if I can make it work. Thanks for the insight.

As it turns out, the box was mislabeled. The part was NOT 996.107.243.41 per the label. It was 996.107.310 BR whatever that fits.

X-51 oil pan & baffle have been discontinued for a long time last I heard. Did you get a later model kit? EBS racing sells a X-51 style baffle.

Box was sealed, marked "Genuine Porsche" and had the correct p/n on it. The supplier is in the process of replacing it with the correct part.

Perhaps someone is making them now. The pan is identical to what comes on the car new, only the baffle is different.
