Key fob-door unlock
I know everyone will get excited about this question but, how far do most of you have to be from your car to unlock the doors with your key fob? I don't remember it ever being that great but now that I bought a new Infiniti(the FX-35)( I know this was a hot topic vs. the Cayenne in the Cayenne forum)it seems to me that I have to get very close to my car before it accuates the door locks. A new battery will probably help but even when my car was new I had to be pretty close( maybe 10 yards) while my new Infiniti it seems like it activates from 50 yards or further.
I was just curious so I'd thought I'd ask the forum.

... Noticably closer than any other car I've owned.
I've tell myself this is by design, to prolong battery life and also to prevent accidental opening while in the house, restaurant or shops and reaching into my pocket.
Mind you, on vacation, I drove a car where you had to put the key in lock!!! whatever next.
Luke.

They do that on purpose...One so people can't intercept you locking code and two so if you hit the button by accident in a store or restaurant your car won't unlock. Honestly it's a 'feature'.
The only time I can see having a range of more than 10 feet usefull is if your running away from somebody trying to shoot you and you need to get into the car quickly and make a getaway.

This "feature" really annoys me.
I guess the point made above about not really needing to have a lot of range has some validity.
What I don't understand is that even at 10 feet I still have to deliberately point the fob at the receiver. I would like it if I could just press it while it's still in my pocket....like my Ford pickup.
Part of me thinks this is more of the typical "reasoning" to justify some of the sub-par things Porsche does.

The only other car with worse keyless entry range is the current generation Saab 9-5 (GF has one). You literally have to be standing at the door pointing the clicker at the receiver.

I do not have to point my remote at the car to have it work. Also, mine seems to work from a pretty good distance. I know I have walked 20 yards from my car and forgot to lock it, push the button and it works. It is very strange, the difference in performance on various features from one car to the next.

Just put the point of your key into underside of your chin and press the unlock button. It'll triple the effective distance. Not a joke - it really works - I bet I've gottten the remote to work from over 25 yards.
