Crappy headlights

Not sure I've ever seen blue halogen bulbs(at least any that have any effect)...the aftermarket HID kit industry is huge and they sell them EVERYWHERE. Under $100 a kit(bulbs, ballasts, wiring) allows anyone to be a blinding pest....what 'colour' do you want? 3000k? 4300k? how about 12000k?

Wrong again. Ever look at Acura's? The late 90's to late 00 models have projectors and factory HID's without self leveling and some of these models are in projector housing.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I wasn't complaining about the drop in retrofits that blind everyone. Was complaining of the EU units in the newer cars that are much brighter than the first gen HIDs. The auto levle system is not fast enough to compensate for bumps and becuase they are a lot brighter than halogens, they blind the crap out of you every time the car hits a bump.

is their still any late 90's Acura's around? ..must be a 'for-Euro' market only thing...of course anyone can adjust 'baseline' on their self-leveling headlight...

FWIW, I have both of my cars with self leveling HID, manually adjusted up slightly to compensate for the lowered stance. Wife's '08 MDX is one of those Acura's that have HID projectors without self leveling from the factory.
However I do have a pet peeve of oncoming old farts that flash you because your headlight color is whiter(not necessarily "brighter") and they think you have your high beams on.
Just the other day, I couldn't figure out the logic of an oncoming driver that flashed me most likely because I have LED angel eyes(bmw) and thought I had my high beams on. The ironic thing is they had a new vehicle with LED lights too.

The easiest solution may be simply changing your bulbs. HID bulbs lose intensity as they age and the color temperature changes. HID bulbs that are more than 10 years old will produce less light than new bulbs.
There are some cool retrofit kits available for the 996. Try Pelican Parts and see if there is something there that interests you.

We have such a problem with aftermarket HID's in stock reflector housings here, you'll never get flashed at for 'hot-rod' alignments on low beams
What is really bad is the new Corolla's/Toyota's/Hyundai/Kia factory HID's, not sure who passed them through...completely blinding to oncoming. The 'dazzle' zone is the on-coming's eyeballs..

Probably not up where you're at as they've probably all rusted to death. L

I'm telling you, a lot of those bright blue lights in econoboxes are NOT retrofit HIDs. I'm not arguing that there are cheap HIDs out there these days but most of the kids without budgets are using stock headlamps with halogens that have a blue tint on them.
