Drying the car after a bath...
I don't know about you guys, but my least favorite part of washing the beast is the drying it off operation. I have used a chammy (The Absorber) on my Cayenne since March. A reply on a post not to long ago seemed quite intriguing to me. Instead of using a chammy, which can pick up dirt particles and inflict light scratches over time, introduce category 5 sustained hurricane force winds to the water... I picked up a Toro electric
leaf blower for fifty bucks. "The Super Blower" generates sustained winds in excess of 215 mph. The water just runs away leaving no water spots without having to even touch the paint finish!!! Just make sure that you hold the unit upside down so that there is no chance of sucking any grit into the air intake from the ground. It gets all the water out from the nooks and crannies so there is no post water drip on the car when you are done drying it and it makes drying the wheels a snap. I did notice the neighbors looking at me quite strangely however, but they just don't understand the P-car addict...

Hmmmm...great tip. I was thinking of buying a compressor to do this. My neighbors think I'm a freak too. I can imagine what they'll be saying when I start doing this. I believe they already think I must be a bad husband and father because of all my toys. Oh well. They're just boring and lazy.

The MicroFiber drying towel is like magic. It works many times better than a chamy.
I have such a perfect coat of wax on my car that the water beeds off from the hood and roof 100%. I don't have to dry the car at all. It only lasts about a week but it's still amazing to see.

Problem here in the ol' desert is that unless you wash your car right before the sun comes up, it's just too hot (the finish dries almost instantly leaving spots). I don't think my neighbors would be thrilled with the sound of a leaf blower at 5:30AM.
I'm still an old-fashioned soft towel guy, but I buy the multi-packs of compressed air cans at Costco (in the office supply section). These are great for blowing water out of wheel nut recesses, mirror housings, misc trim bits, etc, and they last a long time (maybe 10 washes/can).
Cheers,

dirk tanner, good tip on those air cans!
one experience i had was recently buying a 'california water blade' or wtf they call it, and during a wipe of bootlid on my 040 black benz i must have hit it at the wrong angle and the corner of the blade caught something and dragged a noticeable scratch. didnt see any grit, just the hard plastic corner of the blade must have caused it. i threw it out immediately. one wipe too late. be very careful with that particular item. unless car is still really soaked, dont go near it. too much friction perhaps.
john.

Big Blue Towel
Another microfiber option. This one will dry an entire 996 with no problems and no wringing. Although I do sheet the water off the car as a final wash step (i.e. use hose with no attachment and just let the low pressure water run off the car rather than bead).
Good company - I had a problem with their glass cleaning towel and they sent me out a replacement (newer type) with no hassle. And it does a fantastic job as well.

I really like the idea of blowing the water off the car...that's a great one.
Here's the microfibre towel I use...it's great and has pockets sewn in for your hands. Just one towel dries my car perfectly...

I think they also have one step above that blows at 225 mph, but I thought that it might be overkill and it had slightly higher "unsprung weight"..
