Default New Stage 1 Clutch 2002 996 C2

New here, My once Porsche, is there any benefit to using a stage one clutch versus a factory clutch for my 2002 Carrera C2 3.6 L with 39k miles on it?
When I put the new cultch in, I will also replace RMS, IMS and put a short shaft in also.

I will not be using it on the track but
I do like to drive it hard.

No, but I plan on replacing IMS, Water pump and RMS all at the same time. Engine already out.

Your are replacing the intermediate shaft?? I would measure the clutch and if it's still in really good shape, leave as is.

I am replacing the IMS with a L&N single row pro IMS retrofit.
I was just looking at the items that could or should be replace at the same time.

So you are replacing a perfectly good bearing?

You need to split the case if you are replacing the intermediate shaft. From what you wrote, looks like you are only replacing the bearing. I think you are using the wrong lingo here.

And maybe a good clutch...

=)

IMO I'd wait until the clutch is showing wear, and/or if a person is worried about IMS to check the filter every few thousand miles for shinies.

If you're going to replace the clutch and the car is dead stock, I would just use a stock one.

@OPNS I am about to do the same thing. I always put OEM stock clutch back in. Why, because I know it and like it. Until I try another setup on a 996, and like it, I am sticking with original Porsche Parts. That said, I drive mine daily about 20k annually and average 2 track weekends a year.

My 2004 has about the same milage as yours .
The car was starting to show signs of an rms leak .

So I replaced the rms , installed the same L&n bearing , and since the labour is the same and the part not that expensive replaced the clutch disk too , even if the old clutch is within limits .
It only makes sence if you've already dropped the tranny to change the clutch while you are in there .
My flywheel was fine but swapped it out for a gt3rs single mass one at the same time .
I was going to install an aasco flywheel but my Indy convinced me the other one was the way to go. And he gave it to me at cost.

Still got the aasco one new in the box if anyone is interested.

Fwiw , I went with the sport clutch , but an oem one would have been fine .

Curious...what was your indy's reasoning to opt for the GT3RS flywheel as opposed to the AASCO one? Reliability? Daily driveability?

I'm curious as well. I've sold a few of those this year with nobody complaining yet. With all lightened flywheels there is a some sacrifice with noise or drive ability, but the quicker revving more then makes up for it.

How much less weight are we talking about?

Just wondering, and too lazy to google it at the moment.

The Aasco weighs 14.35 lbs, which is about 15 lbs lighter then the stock flywheel.
