Default Turbo Look II or Carrera? Strength differences?

I am looking at an Arctic Silver C2 Coupe, however it has Turbo Look II wheels - I think I prefer Carrera style. Dealer tells me Carrera is lighter, but more prone to pothole damage - is this true? I will mainly drive in urban areas (e.g. NYC).

Thanks,

wino

The Carrera wheel is actually a pressure cast design and very strong. I wouldn't hesitate to drive on it. The Turbo Look II is much heavier.

Default Had 2 bent 18" carrera rims on my '02 996...

after getting a flat, dealer remarked that both my back rims were bent. I was not aware of hitting any pothole or bad bump at any time. I have been told that all 18 " wheels are more susceptible to such damage, and given the cost of replacement (wheel and tire), I opted to buy a pair of "take off" 17 " wheels and tires. Actually, like the ride a lot more and have more sidewall protection and less cost down the road.

Sure, the taller the wheel, the shorter the sidewall and the more chances for the wheel rim to bend. However, this usually happens if you don't have enough tire pressure. Just check your pressure a bit more often than once a month.

Any other experiences? I have to decide today - 18 inch Carrera or Turbo Look II for driving in DC & NY. I don't know if it makes a difference, but car also has M30 (Sports Suspension)

Well, do you care if the wheels are lighter? From the sounds of it, you are mostly concerned about longevity and/or looks. If it is longevity, choose the Turbo Look II. If it is looks, choose the one you like best.
