Default "Lazy" key

I have had the "key not electronically unlock/lock syndrome" off and on for a few weeks getting more persistent. I read all the forum posts about this problem and accepted the $300+ cure. Today while bored I found a new 2032 battery and figured what do I have to lose. Changed and it worked as good as new! Moral to the story: not everything on these car are expensive to fix. Early Christmas present to myself.

Buy new key with electronics, declared prices have varied by posters. Take to dealer to have them program the car to recognize the new key, approx. $50 to $100. Some say some indies can do it. Others say only a Porsche dealer can perform the task. I'm just happy the battery fixed mine! Deal is the red light will light even with defective electronics or, in my case, even with a low battery. Try a new battery 1st.

I can confirm that an indie can do it.

It takes a bit more time as it has something to with the security codes assigned to the VIN.

My guy asked his contacts in Europe and gave me a whole sheet of numbers. Based on that he programmed a new key for me.

Miami: How new is new on the batteries? Mine was less than one year old and I don't use it as much as I would like to. My symptoms were red light would light when button pushed, however, the car would not always lock or unlock. Sometimes it would take numerous times to get car to respond while moving and getting closer to car and receiver. It slowly kept getting worse. New battery made everything "well" again.
