Default Stereo problem

I know there have been numerous threads about replacement head units, but I have searched but can't seem to find what I'm looking for. My CDR 220 (I think that's what it is), just stopped having a functioning volume control, so although I've lived with its other deficiencies, I think now is the time to change it out.

I'm looking for a single DIN, adjustable color control (or a unit that comes close to stock), and the usual features like BT, etc.

Don't need sat radio, but AM/FM reception is important. I've done numerous stereo change outs, so not a novice. I've had my unit out a couple times too, so understand what's involved. If possible, I'd like to get a proper adapter plug (a la Crutchfield) so I don't have to hack up the stock plug.

Links to pertinent threads are appreciated!

I wish you the best of luck, especially with the requirement for solid AM/FM performance. I think that many of the newer aftermarket units focus so heavily on satellite radio and Bluetooth streaming that they ignore those who want AM/FM. The Kenwood unit that I installed in my 996 performed poorly with FM reception and extremely poorly with AM reception. I actually took it back to the installer because I thought that they forgot to connect the antennae. They informed me that everything was connected and that most aftermarket receivers offer poor radio reception. Hopefully you can find a brand that performs well.

I have been speaking with Tore about the Continental head unit. Has am/fm, b/t, aux in and the amber lighting matches the rest of the dash. It will probably be at least a few weeks before he develops a fully plug-and-play harness. It's the route I'm going with because of the OEM look. There was a thread on this recently.

I've had a lot of luck with some of the pioneer decks, frankly it really doesn't match the "style" within our cars but the reception is pretty stellar, and the colors can easily be changed within the settings to match our interior. This model I just put in my little wrx purportedly has the HD receiver in it and it sounds better than it should for the price.

Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS, hint look up sonix electronics for a better price, than most.

I have the same CDR220 in my car and it will be upgraded sometime in the future, was thinking at looking at the Blaupunkt line to follow the general aesthetics of the car/dash colors.

I'm also going to go with the Continental radio for the Bluetooth and USB support. My understanding is that the poor radio reception of the CDR220 is more a function of the built-in windshield antenna than the head unit, so changing the head unit is unlikely to help in that area.
