So my drivers door handle disconnected from the mechanism, think it is a common issue as read about others with same problem.
Problem is I left the car locked with alarm on for past 2 weeks and now the fob doesn't work, in order to make it work I have to open the drivers door with the key and turn on the ignition to reset it but I can't open the door.... And using the key it only unlocks the drivers door not the passenger door.
Any other ideas or any other way to get the fob to start working'?
Thanks!

Thought of this. Had not tried on my 996 before but worked on other cars. Doesn't work unfortunately. Maybe alarm has to be off before it works.

Yes if it sits for > week the key fob stops working and you need to physically unlock the car and the fob will work again.
I fear this happening so if my car sits I leave the hood and rear ajar so I can get to some jump points. That doesn't really help you now though.
What about using the cable release for the front or rear and attaching a battery jumper to either the rear jumping points or the battery at the front if you can get them open?

Doesn't that defeat the purpose by keeping the compartment lights on and running the battery down?

Get a battery maintainer that plugs into the cig lighter.

Good point, I always unplug them. The front turns off after 2 hours but I disconnect it anyway
