Default OBC Question

I had the OBC activated on my 2002 996 and get the temp, dte, etc.....

What I would like to do is replace the guage cluster from that of one with the Factory OBC that has the Dot Matrix display. Would that work?

Thx

I have done about 30 trip computer retrofits, and I always wanted to try a dot matrix display cluster in a non OBC optioned car to see if it would work. But I have not found a local owner who wanted to spend the money to buy an OBC cluster.

The shop forman at my local dealer who helps us when we work on cars thought it would work, but there is only one way to find out for sure. We do not know anyone who has tried. Jeff

Do you happen to know the part number for either the 996 or 986 with the Factory OBC?

Thanks

There is no single part number for any instrument cluster. Is it a tip, 6 speed, C4, color, part of an option package, and so on. Rather than hinting around post the part number on renntech.org or here or call your dealer and someone will tell you if the cluster has the 659 option.

Info on DVDs. http://www.vssi-eda.com/9x6werks/

Stupid me is looking for local 996s to work on when our local owners work on Boxsters. Need help from Loren for that. Took 6 months to get 3 DVDs. Then I thought we should put as many cars together and work on them side by side. Get a lot of good tape that way.

I found a 986 Tip cluster that has the part number 986-641-214-02

I don't mind losing the Voltage and Oil gauges to go it if it would work.
