PCM2 Repair Shop Recommendation
Any recommendations on a repair shop for PCM's?
1. Remove the PCM surround by gently prying off with a plastic scraper or spatula. CAREFUL..its a soft paint on the surround that can't be easily repaired.
2. This exposes the sides of the PCM.
3. Take a hex key (6mm) I believe and with a powerful little flashlight look for TWO circular plastic plugs that have a female hex center. These are alongside the left and right of the unit closest to the screen. I think the top and bottom ones may rotate in different directions so do be careful.
4. These are gently turned about 60 degrees and the lever against the locks that hold the unit in. Its a little tricky but use lots of light and finesse.
5. Once these locks (TWO on each side, left and right) are free the unit simply slides out.
6. Disconnect the switches (easy clips).
7. Disconnect the lighter (this a B***H). Look inside the front of the lighter and identify 2 little cutouts in the aluminum. These are small, about 2x3 mm or 1/16 x 1/8 inches. You will see little plastic teats in the notches. Take a tiny screwdriver and gently bend the bottom of the cutout up so the teat slides over it. Then simply push the lighter out from the back. Some people have tried for 8 hours to do this but the secret is the teats.
8. The unit is now free.
9. Send it to Becker in New Jersey. They replaced the graphics card and screen on mine for $700.
Tomorrow I am instilling it and will keep ya posted.
