Heh - so you just summarized a post in the same thread for us? That's awesome. If you could start doing that for each thread, I'd appreciate it. And if you'll remove all references to KK and/or JohnnyIrish, I'll pay you $1 per thread.

I wouldn't think, barring something special they do, that a respray with the original color would really hurt the value.
I don't know what it is with the whole respray shame. When I was buying my 996, the sales guy really wanted to make me an offer on the 986 - but of course said, "Ooh, this fender has been resprayed..."

I told him that I thought the (well-done) respray looked a lot better than a big-*** dent and scratch on the top of the fender where a big chunk of sheet metal fell on it, but if he preferred the original look I could recreate it for him.

I kinda figured that would be the end of the Boxster negotiations, but he actually wound up buying it...terrible, horrible, unforgivable respray and all...

Original paint is a pretty big deal to me. It shows the car hasn't been hit or filled with bondo it just makes it a more honest car I look for as much original paint as possible when I purchase a car. Look at the classic car market which cars are most desirable usually the original paint survivors. Not to say my 996 will ever be a classic

Well that's just it, and in my mind paint to replace scratches is different than a ton of body work. But, even then, after going through the Jeep I don't mind a bunch of body work.

I much prefer the look of my car with the resprayed front than with all that road rash it had before. I think most potential buyers would appreciate it too.

I guess it all comes down to personal taste. Not much else to say.

I'm mad at the world because it's full of unfairness...cruelty...civil unrest...war...greed...

Oh. Wait. I like all those things.

I checked, and it turns out I'm not mad at the world. I just enjoy seeing the humor in things. Like people Who randomly Capitalize common Nouns, For Example.

I also like to Troll trolls from Time to time, as Well. Thus, my Fascination with the Afore-Mentioned trolls.

Heh. Yes, we've all noticed that a nice "patina" can really drive the value of a 996 skyward.

Fer **** be consistent with your irrational capitalisation and at least spell it properly.

911661 is not alone in valuing original paint. I get it on a truly collectible car, but on a car that gets driven regularly, I think original paint is not that big of a deal.I changed the windshield in our 951 last spring because it was cracked. Should I have stuck with the original despite the crack? No one has an issue replacing parts on a car when they are worn out - why is a respray any different?
And OBTW, there just aren't that many cars made each year that will be truly collectible: the exotics comprise the vast majority of that population. Other than the 918, I don't think that any 2015 model Porsche falls into the "truly collectible" category. Sure there are a lot of fantastic cars rolling out of Stuttgart every year, but they are cars meant to be driven and enjoyed, not to be museum pieces. The more I am around car museums the clearer it becomes to me that few museum cars actually are perfectly preserved mint condition vehicles. Use 'em, customize 'em, make your car your own.
