It's easy to verify. Put the engine in TDC cyl#1, the cam lock tool should only be able to fit in the cams on one of the banks. If it can slide in both banks, you have a problem. Normally you need to turn the crank 360 before the tool can fit the other bank.
Another way is to verify compression of each cylinder when you rotate the crankshaft. The compression sequence (every 120 degree on the crankshaft) should follow the firing order 1-6-2-4-3-5.
