Let the 996/Boxster Part Sharing Begin Again...
With VW's scandal and rumored Mueller(Porsche CEO) to take the helm of VW Group, we could be seeing a lot more parts sharing, even heftier options pricing(think $1k colored optional key fobs), and more parts/assemblies made in Mexico, to make up for the heavy deficits.
Could we possibly see a repeat of the 996/Boxster exchange happening again?

I don't see how this should necessarily affect Porsche's production or pricing.
VW is going to take a hit and will have to lick its wounds for a couple of years. This too shall pass.
Meanwhile Porsche should continue to be the profitable bright star in VW's corporate ownership that it has been for over a decade.

I think there's a lot more fallout to be seen and then I'm sure the executive board will reassess the direction they want each brand to go in. It will be an uphill battle for the engineers/designers I fear against the bean counters yet again...
All I know is that our chance of seeing a production version of this anytime soon has just greatly decreased.

I expect that once VW has collapsed, Tesla will buy what remains. Oh and diesel is dead in passenger vehicles not just in the US but in most other places.

I believe the most interesting part of the story is that after all the dust settles, Piech gets his way, with Mueller being installed as CEO.
It took a retirement and a scandal, but the crafty old man got his wish.

It isn't although it is much more widely used in passenger cars than in the US. Just today I read a story that the BMW X3 that does use urea injection has been found to be more polluting than it should be. I thought LPG might be an option (and it is half the price of petrol in the UK) but it apparently produces methane, which is not a good thing.

It will pass. But I think this is going to kill diesel in the U.S. And all they did was intentionally lie about emissions (don't get me wrong - that's bad) but Ford intentionally killed people with the Pinto and they are still there. And I agree about Porsche. Probably a little more part sharing between model lines (even brands) and I bet there is an extra year or two between new models.

The explorer rollovers didn't kill them either and IIRC, the exploder is the best selling SUV
