Default Another One Bites the Dust

Another small job crossed off my 996 To Do list.

Replaced the LCD screen today and was surprised how easy it was. Got the kit from 914Rubber (and instructions thanks to Cuda). The only thing that threw me for a loop was that the instructions say remove the protective film from both sides of the new screen. I was picking at the screen with the gloves on trying to find the protective film and finally convinced myself that there was no film (turns out there wasn't). Reinstalled the unit and it works perfectly. I think it took less than an hour from start to finish. Don't have a before pic, but it was very similar to the one pictured in the instructions.

Just a couple of more things to do in my quest to restore my 996 to a near perfect state - respray front bumper, hood, fender (appt. already made) and repair to the leather bolster on drivers seat.

P.S. Does anyone have any advice on the seat leather repair? It's not really bad, but has cracks that are noticeable and feels rough.

I was at a PCA event a few months ago and an outfit called Fiber New demo'ed fixing a pretty thrashed bolster on an old M roadster. The finished effect was pretty impressive.

nice to know these sort of hiccups can be addressed in our own garages.

Check out some of the leather repair threads. Or visit a local auto upholstery shop. Either way, especially with black interior, you should have it looking new in no time.

Thanks. Sounds like the Leatherworld and other high end kits do a great job. Just not sure if I'm confident taking it on. We'll see what the pros quote for the repair. If it's close to the cost of the kit plus 2 or 3 hours of labour I think it'll be well worth it to me.

I may have missed this somewhere and off topic, but you handle is triple black - so I expected a black/black/black cab. In your pic you have a silver coupe?

And i have a bucket list of things to restore/refresh also to get back to perfection and it does feel good when one gets crossed off.

Driver side left bolster is an issue on almost every car made. I see lots of stress on here about it, but it has never been a problem to get fixed in any car I've had. I have had it replaced in probably a dozen cars over the years once it finally tears. Always seems to be about $200 and fixed with very closely matching scrap material the shop typically has left over from another job. Most of my cars have black interior so I guess that makes it easier to match.

Yea, sorry about the confusing handle. My triple black has been gone a few years now.

Just never got around to changing my handle on here (not even sure if that is possible).

I'm a pretty handy/DIY type, but I can honestly say that The Leatherworld repair kit/process is about as easy as it comes. Although I do have spray equipment, it wasn't necessary. You can use the sponge/foam applicator that comes with the kit to get amazing results...Well worth the $80.00 - good luck
