The faceplate broke on mine, so now opening and closing it is a big pain. It broke on maybe the 5th time I ever used it. Maybe someone is parting an 02+ car and can send me one?
There's no way I'm paying $325 for a new one!

Faceplate on mine broke, but it still had the nubs from where it was mounted. A little pressure and it would line up and stay on until it was bumped.
In my case, a little super glue got it back on permanently, still holding strong.
May want to see if you can. Try that.

I'm one of the few that actually appreciates the cup holder in my '02. Not perfect, but better than my old 5 series. I had the same issue with the faceplate, only mine somehow cracked in half when it fell off. I super glued it back on and although you can see the crack, you really have to look close. No, it doesn't work quite as well as before, but I use it almost every day, and it's fine.
The OCD in me would normally have just replaced it, but like you the price was just too much for some plastic.
