My "ludicrous" button is ESP off?
In stock form E55 won't touch the P85D. I am giving up 200 HP and 350 lf-ft of torque and AWD.
But, Tesla does not make jet sounds and there is no V8 roar. Also, no flashing /\ through first and half of the second gear.
If you put $15k in the E55, you will decimate P85D and virtually everything else. But I could not imagine how crazy the car would feel; I know that in stock form I am having hard time adjusting to acceleration rate and torque. Bone stock ones with sticky tires have gone high 11s in the 1/4 mile at 117/118 mph; for a two ton vault with no discernible sensation of speed it is stupid quick.

To help others in this difficult situation ,I suggest you point out the value of researching here on Rennlist. Here they will find that there are well over 20 other "Modes of Failure" . So fixating on the IMSB (as I did !) may be misguided.
Better to be aware of all the potential issues from a reliable source -your highly respected local Indie for example.
No car is fault-free. IMHO the best worry insurance is buying from competent ,honest people and they are often very useful when it comes to selling. How do I know? I have an interest in a Jaguar/Range Rover service/sales business. And you think Porsche has issues???Even BMW does - we work on those too.
How to find a competent ,honest Indie? In our (Jar/RR) case - just find out where the big outfits who work on your chosen brand sub out their difficult work. In our case every Jag/RR mechanic in town knows the answer.
Best reason ever to avoid the OEM Dealer !Just a suggestion.

Well up here is different. Not that many care about the IMS bearing. Why didn't you sell it to the "odd few"? Or reduce the price by the cost of the bearing replacement +$500. Or sell it under the condition that you will replace it (it's ~$1500). Did you take a bigger hit than $2K from this dealer?
Selling it really showed up the downside of 996 ownership, Congratulations Jake on the Hype/Marketing you put together, it really is crazy that you can have a perfect car but people cant now get past where the IMS has been replaced, irrespective of the condition of the car. I would guess selling a POS with the LN bearing would have been easier than a car in perfect condition without one.
Even though I don't have IXX retrofit now, if I decide to sell it in the future, I will most likely get one done right before I sell it due to the paranoia of your typical buyer these days making it more marketable in this climate.
