Function of second button on keyfob?
Hi there - dumbass newbie query, but couldn't find an answer in the archives...
Just acquired an '01 C2 coupe today, and I absolutely cannot for the life of me figure out what the second, smaller button on the keyfob does. The main button (key icon) both enables and disables the alarm, but the smaller button (icon of the bonnet lifted) doesn't seem to do anything except flash the light.
Cannot find this in the manuals - help!!
Thanks,
Ed Acciardi

Congratulations on the new car, and welcome to Rennlist.

You're right, I thought the light on the dash would only light up after the hood button was depressed for a second or two. If the hood was partially open, the horn should beep when you activate the alarm.

FWIW, the 2001 owner's manual does not tell you to hold down the button to open the luggage compartment, it just says 'Push Button 2'. I know this because I went through the exact same thing just a few weeks ago.
Push button...nothing happens.
Push button again...nothing happens again.
Read owners manual, it still says 'Push Button 2'
Push button, this time knowing it's called 'Button 2'...nothing happens.
Get a little frustrated stand real close to car and mash & hold button 2.
This was making use of the, if it doesn't work press it harder theory
Click...goes the hood
Hmmm, it must have been because I pushed the button harder. (j/k)
Nope --Guess it must have been because I held the button.
Hold button 2...click.
Have you found the wiper delay yet? It's right where it should be.

Three Wheelin'
You have to keep your finger down on the button until the top open/close operation completes....i.e., when the windows come up. Just pressing the button and releasing it won't do it.
Hey I thought you guys stateside didn't have this feature on your key fob?

Thanks folks - got it. It works as (non) advertised.
I swear it is going to take me years to stop trying to jam the key into a non-existent slot on the right side of the steering column.

FWIW, my kids have taken to call my car the "backwards" car.
Compared to our other cars....
-engine in back
-trunk in rear
-ignition on left
-window controls in center (not armrest)
-fortunately the steering wheel is on the correct side, not the right side

Some insight on the 2nd button "hold" vs "press" -
If you unlock (using the remote) the car but DO NOT open the car, it will, after approx 20 seconds, relock and rearm the system. This is to cover the possiblity of a stray signal (try parking at an airport) unlocking the car and it staying unlocked - a bad thing. For the trunk, when the lock is tripped, the hood "springs" up - and the system cannot "reshut" the hood. If there was a stray signal, the hood would pop up, and "ouch....".
So, to reduce the chance of a stray pop up, the unlock signal must be steady for a given length of time (approx 3 seconds).
Sorry for being long winded,
J
