I have an 03 996 C2 Cabrio. Recently the check engine light came on. My code reader says it is P2098. Turns out that there was a technical service bulletin from Porsche on this code for 02 and some later years. They say that the code often suggests a problem with the 02 sensor. They advise against replacing the sensor because it is a software glitch that can be eliminated if you update the DME software.
Problem is that my car has been "Chipped" by Powerchip, now out of business in the U.S. The chip gives me significant performance boost and improved fuel economy.
If I refresh the system software with the "proper" software upgrade, I stand to make serious changes to the chipping and maybe eliminate the advantages.
Is that true? Does updating the DME software wipe out the performance chipping?
Depending what type of Smog Test there is in your State, your Powerchip may be discovered by the new Smog Test. In California you may get tagged for tampering. That is actually a worse 'crime' than being a "Gross Polluter".
Suggest you investigate this as it may simplify your decision.

LOL. are we talking 30hp?
Yes it will wipe your old pgm. If Powerchip were smart, they would've turned down the car efficiency threshold as well at the same time. Apparently they didn't do this.
